On Sunday, July 7, 2019, four people were killed when two motorcycles were involved in a head-on collision. Three of the victims were Orange County residents, and the fourth was from Nevada. They all died at the scene.
The devastating accident happened after 4:30 pm when one of the riders swerved to pass the vehicle in front of them. Unfortunately, as the motorcycle rounded a blind curve of the windy road, it hit a second bike heading in the opposite direction.
Motorcycle Accident Statistics
Because motorcycles are small and do not offer riders the same protection as a vehicle, they are more likely to be involved in accidents that result in fatalities. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, in 2017, over 5,000 motorcyclists were killed in crashes.
A majority of motorcycle accidents involve collisions with other vehicles. In instances when another driver’s negligence or reckless actions caused the crash, they could be held financially liable for damages.
