The Life Journey of Jason Cohn & Saar Swartzon

The Life Journey of Jason Cohn & Saar Swartzon

Friends. Fraternity brothers. Lawyers. Dads. Business partners.

While not necessarily in that order, the connections between law firm partners, Saar Swartzon & Jason Cohn, date back over two decades. “I think I was at a party when I first met Jason”, says Swartzon bashfully. Many lifelong relationships have begun in a similar fashion. “I liked him right off the bat. He seemed down to earth and was from Orange County”, said Swartzon, a native of Syracuse, New York, who attended high school in Orange County, The two quickly became friends. While attending the University of Southern California, Saar and Jason both pledged and were initiated into the Upsilon chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi. Founded in 1931, the chapter remains strong to this day with over 100 active members. “Saar was quick-witted, hilarious and passionate. I remember him in our fraternity pledge class always cracking jokes and being able to think on his feet”, says Jason. A skill that served Saar well while in college and into his career as a litigator. While the bonds of friendship can be established in virtually any setting, the bonds of brotherhood are forged through common purpose, dispositions, and characteristics imbued with rich heritage and tradition. The values of Alpha Epsilon Pi carried on with both Saar and Jason through graduation, law school and into their young careers as associate attorneys. These shared values were what helped reunite Saar and Jason again years later when they decided to form a partnership and establish Cohn & Swartzon, P.C. in 2008.“At the time I had my own solo law practice and was literally wondering how things were going to grow when out of the blue, Saar called me after contacting another fraternity brother who is a lawyer.

His call came at THE perfect time.” Since relatively humble beginnings, the last decade plus of the firm has been nothing but a success. Cohn & Swartzon, P.C. now has a full team of attorneys, paralegals and certified legal assistants that aggressively fight for their clients on even the most complex cases. Additionally, the firm has been AV Preeminent® rated from Martindale-Hubbell®, an anonymous peer rating by other attorneys in the local legal community, and both Saar and Jason have been included in the California Super Lawyers list for the past 5 years.

None of this success would be possible with the relationship and trust that developed while being fraternity brothers at USC. “Jason is an amazing judge of character. I always consult with him to get his take on people”, says Swartzon. The feeling is mutual. “We’re closer than most business partners because of our fraternal bond. It’s a deeper relationship than most and we can talk about practically anything”, adds Cohn. This bond encompasses activities both within the legal field and outside. Within the legal field, both Saar and Jason have taken roles as adjunct professors at their respective law schools to help lead students and prep them for their careers in law. The two also occasionally take on cases pro bono for certain clients to help give back to the community.

Outside of law, both Saar and Jason support various charities and non-profit organizations. Alpha Epsilon Pi’s mission is to develop the future leaders of the Jewish Community, and both Saar and Jason remain steadfast in those principles. Both strive to be role models to their community as members of the Orange County Jewish Bar Association, a legal group that provides a forum for economic, educational, social and processional advancement of Jewish attorneys in Southern California.
