Jason D. Cohn

A true California native, Jason D. Cohn was born and raised in Orange County. Staying close to home after graduating high school, he attended the prestigious Business Administration Entrepreneur Program at the University of Southern California’s (USC) Marshall School of Business. During his time at USC, Jason was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity and became lifelong friends with a fellow member, Saar Swartzon. Jason and Saar would later be the founders of their own law firm, Cohn & Swartzon. Upon completion of Jason’s undergraduate degree in 1994, he decided to follow his father’s path, who was then also a lawyer, by enrolling into Whittier Law School.

Jason excelled as a law student, gaining a reputation quickly for being both studious and hardworking. He would hold private tutoring sessions for students who were struggling with the curriculum and would regularly be included on the Dean’s List. Due to Jason’s outstanding performance in law school, he was invited to become a member of the Whittier Law Review and Moot Court Honors Board. In 1997, Jason graduated from Whittier Law School, with honors, and relocated back to Orange County from nearby Los Angeles. Jason then passed the bar and began practicing law as a business litigator and personal injury defense attorney for a distinguished law firm in Newport Beach.

After his father suddenly passed away in 2003, Jason grew weary of the stance most insurance companies held against those injured in personal injury claims. Based upon his desire to make his late father proud, Jason opened his own law practice representing those injured instead of representing the insurance companies. After running a successful solo practice for almost 5 years, Jason then formed Cohn & Swartzon in 2008 with long-time friend and colleague, Saar Swartzon. Jason and Saar started their new firm with the importance of putting the needs of the injured first and foremost. Since 2003, Jason has been representing and assisting clients through a wide variety of personal injury law matters, from the minor to the catastrophic. By working with each client one-on-one and showing true compassion, Jason can better connect with his clients, which in turn improves the likelihood of a successful result.

Jason is also proud of his advocacy on behalf of those who cannot fight for themselves, referring particularly to a case in which he was able to fundraise over $30,000 for a client in dire times. This is quite exemplary of Jason as a person: doing what is right because it is the right thing to do.

Jason Cohn is licensed to practice law in most Federal District Courts in California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and all California State courts. In addition, Jason has previously been positioned as a temporary judge in the Los Angeles County courts system. As an alumni, he has also been a guest lecturer at USC and numerous times at Whittier Law School. In 2015 and 2016, Jason was also appointed as an Adjunct Professor at Whittier Law School in Costa Mesa. In the media, he has appeared as a guest on several radio shows and was named as one of the Top Attorneys in Orange County by OC Metro Magazine, a publication that surveys the top attorneys in the area by assessing the quality of each attorney taking into account their years of experience, education, background, and board certification.

Personal Interests

During Jason’s personal time, he enjoys spending time exploring new, exciting activities, such as attending air shows, visiting sports car events, watching all types of auto-racing, wine tasting, and hosting a good barbecue. Additionally, he also takes pleasure in different outdoor activities, including deep sea fishing, skiing, camping, off-road motorcycle riding, and off-roading. Jason has even been a participant in off-road events like SCORE Baja 1000 in Baja, California and the Best of the Desert – Vegas to Reno race.

Recent Reviews & Testimonials

  • In addition to Jason and Saar, the entire staff always provided the utmost in service.

“Let me begin by saying that I would recommend Cohn & Swartzon to anyone in need of legal advice. Both Jason and Saar are very personable and they provided a high level of service to me as their client. In addition to Jason and Saar, the entire staff always provided the utmost in service. One of the things that I liked was the fact that they stayed true to their word. They told me that they personally would take calls, if necessary. It was not very often that I needed to speak directly to them; but when I did, they were accessible. I appreciate the great lengths that they went to in working with an uncooperative doctor, who took a very long time getting a key report to them. They worked with the insurance companies and the adjusters, which took all of the unnecessary stress off of me. The Firm went to bat for me and we were successful in settling my personal injury case without going to trial. Saar was able to negotiate and reduce my medical bills, thus putting more cash into my hands. I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome, and the timing of the settlement couldn't have come at a better time.”

  • We ended up obtaining much more compensation than we ever thought possible.

“I am very happy to recommend Cohn & Swartzon. My two young daughters and I were hit by a teenage driver whose vehicle flipped over our SUV. Cohn & Swartzon took care of everything, from dealing with my own insurance to educating me on the importance of getting top notch medical care. We ended up obtaining much more compensation than we ever thought possible. Thank you so much!”

  • After Cohn & Swartzon fought hard for me in court, I received over a 6 figure settlement and also had my surgery paid for.

“When I first met with Cohn & Swartzon, they explained to me that I had a difficult case; but because of my severe injuries, they were willing to help. Initially, the insurance did not offer much; but after Cohn & Swartzon fought hard for me in court, I received over a 6 figure settlement and also had my surgery paid for.”

  • I am very happy with the level of service Cohn & Swartzon provided me with during my time of need.

“I am very happy with the level of service Cohn & Swartzon provided me with during my time of need. I truly did not expect my insurance to cover my legal fees, but I am sure that Attorney Cohn and Attorney Swartzon wrote a great letter to them. I hope that I don't need an attorney ever again; but if I did, I would go back to Cohn & Swartzon. And I would definitely refer my family and friends.”
